The mother church of the Diocese of Pembroke is the second church in the city of Pembroke. The first church was replaced by the current Cathedral. It became a Cathedral in 1882 when the Vicariate of the Pontiac was created by Pope Leo XIII and Bishop Narcisse Zéphirin Lorrain became the first bishop. In 1898, the Diocese of Pembroke was erected.
